Fifth Arab Competition Forum

As part of its mandate to strengthen competition frameworks and policies in the Arab region, ESCWA, in partnership with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Competition Commission of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and the Tunisian Competition Council (TCC), is launching the Fifth Arab Competition Forum.

The Forum focuses on the theme of advocacy, highlighting the importance of actively promoting and supporting effective competition policies. It provides a common channel for advancing knowledge and best practices in competition, and for facilitating coordination and collaboration at the national, regional, and international levels.

Competition authorities in member States are to benefit from peer learning based on international case studies and best practices provided by their counterparts from different countries.

The Forum’s objectives include:

  • Supporting unified and impactful competition advocacy efforts in the Arab region;
  • Contributing significantly to advancing economic growth and governance in the Arab region, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
  • Enhancing collaboration and coordination among competition authorities across ESCWA member States;
  • Providing valuable insights to shape competition policymaking and enforcement in the Arab region, drawing inspiration from global best practices;
  • Compiling actionable recommendations for future initiatives aimed at advancing competition policy and enforcement in the Arab region.
