About

By the constitution of the County Assembly and on the basis of the Law on Local Governance and Self - Government, 15. April 1993, Brodsko-Posavska County was established. It united two former municipalities - Nova Gradiska and Slavonski Brod. The county is a unit of regional self-government whose area represents a natural, historical, traffic, economic, social and self-governing entity and is organized for the purpose of carrying out affairs of territorial (regional) interest. (Local and Regional Self-Government Act.)

The Brodsko-Posavina County is located in the southern part of the Slavonian lowlands, between the mountains of Psunj, Požega and Diljsko gorje from the north and the Sava River from the south, which is part of the state border to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the length of 163 km. It is located on the north latitude of 45 ° 0.2 '- 45 ° 23' and the eastern latitude of 17 ° 0.4 '- 18 ° 35'. It occupies an area of 2.034 km2 which makes up to 3.61% of the total territory of the Republic of Croatia (56.542 km2) and is ranked 14th among the Croatian counties. It is one of the narrowest (7 km) and longest county (117 km in length), the east border with Vukovar-Srijem, in the northeast of Osijek-Baranja, in the north with Požega-Slavonia and in the west with Sisak-Moslavina County.

Brod-Posavina County can be divided into three relief units: mountain, flat and lowland. The mountainous area is a treasured mountain, mostly covered with forests with the highest altitude of 984 m (Psunj). The ravine area occupies most of the County, and it is the edge of the fertile Slavonian plain. The lowland area along the Sava is interwoven with streams, canal and swamps. The county is an area of moderate continental climate, all milder in winter and warmer summers. Water, forests and fertile soil, waterways and European corridors are the natural conditions that enable the development of the economy, traffic, trade and culture.
