About
Vukovar-Srijem County is located in the extreme northeast of the Croatian. It lies in the region between, between the Danube and Sava rivers, and occupies parts of the historical province of Eastern Slavonia and Western Srijem. The area of Vukovar-Srijem County is 2,448 km2. In this area, there is little difference in altitude. The highest point Čukala Ilok (294 m above sea level) and the lowest in Posavina - Spačva (78 meters). In the east gently descend slopes of Fruska Gora and crossing the Vukovar Ravnjak. From the west, the mountains throughout, provides the Vinkovci-đakovački Ravnjak.
This area of water important river and land roads and cross the international transport routes from east to west along the Danube, and from the north across the river Sava to the Adriatic Sea. There are touching and facing civilization of the Western and Eastern cultural circle.
The rich plains was the scene of numerous conflicts and migrations. Thanks to the extremely fertile soil, a favorable climate, natural resources and good geographical position this area has been inhabited since ancient times. It's been more than a millennium to here Croats build their public life and customs.
