The HORIZON-CL5-2025-02-D3-25 assignment aims to enhance the safe and efficient transport and storage of CO2, particularly focusing on the challenges posed by impurities. The expected outcomes include a better understanding of how impure CO2 flows affect transport infrastructure and storage sites, contributing to the development of relevant guidelines and standardization work. The project will deliver recommendations for the design and operation of pipelines and/or ship offloading, and for ensuring the integrity of storage complexes, providing guidance for various stakeholders and promoting the uptake of results.

The companies CFFT S.p.A., UNEEDIT and USGM (Università degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi) are interested in joining a larger consortium and provide support with topics within their areas of expertise. UNEEDIT  is a consultancy firm specializing in sustainable transport and mobility development. They offer services like strategic mobility planning, climate change analysis, social inclusion in mobility, and innovation in transport systems. CFFT S.p.A. is a third-party logistics (3PL) company based in Civitavecchia. They offer integrated services including container operations, warehouse activities, and ship operations. They are also expanding into areas like green logistics, including the use of hydrogen in port operations. USGM is an online university that carries the name of Guglielmo Marconi, reflecting a spirit of innovation in education.

CFFT S.p.A., UNEEDIT and USGM can contribute to the following activities within this assignment:

  • Application case of CO2  storage at the port terminal
  •           Transportation analysis: Logistics of CO2 movement; Operational aspects; Evaluation of the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of different transport solutions, Regulatory and standardization aspects
  •           An analysis of contaminants in CO2 produced from thermochemical biomass processes
