Description

In rural regions of Haiti, particularly in the Nippes and South departments, access to safe and reliable transportation remains a major barrier to education. Many children are forced to walk long distances or rely on unsafe transport methods such as overloaded motorcycles, exposing them to accidents and increasing school dropout rates.

To address this urgent challenge, Urgence Haïtienne de Développement Économique et Social (UHDES) is implementing a project aimed at providing safe, structured, and subsidized school transportation for vulnerable children.

This initiative seeks to support approximately 140 children per day, with a long-term objective of reaching more beneficiaries annually, by ensuring access to secure and reliable transportation to and from school.

Key components include:

  • Deployment of safe and compliant school buses
  • Subsidization of transportation costs for low-income families
  • Community awareness on road safety and child protection
  • Collaboration with schools and local authorities

Expected Impact

  • Significant reduction in transportation-related risks (up to 90%)
  • Increased school attendance and retention
  • Improved safety and well-being of children
  • Reduced financial burden on vulnerable households

Partnership Opportunities
UHDES is seeking partnerships with:

  • Donors and development agencies
  • Private sector companies (CSR programs)
  • Logistics and transportation partners
  • Education-focused organizations

Partners can contribute through:

  • Financial support (monthly or annual sponsorship)
  • Vehicle donation or leasing support
  • Technical assistance and operational support
  • Sponsorship of children (individual or group-based)
