Description

Since the independence of Botswana in 1966 relations between Japan and the Republic of Botswana has been growing, helped by our active international cooperation and increasing people-to-people ties, particularly through cultural and grass-roots level exchanges. The Government of Botswana established its diplomatic mission in Tokyo in 1997. The Embassy of Japan in Gaborone was established in January 2008 and has undertaken its duty for promoting our cooperative relationship.

Bilateral relations between Japan and Botswana are based on a sound foundation of mutual respect, understanding and support underpinned by shared fundamental values of democracy, human rights and rule of law. The cooperation between both countries covers a wide range of areas from political action and sustainable development to cultural activities.
