Description
The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture
The education system of Suriname is centralized and is coordinated, led and regulated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (MINOWC). The Ministry is also the largest financier of educational services. Since May 2010, the MINOWC has consisted of two directorates:
The Education Directorate
The Culture Directorate
'Science' has been added to the Ministry's name since April 2015.
Each directorate is led by a director who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the directorate and reports directly to the minister.
The directorates are divided into a number of main departments, each of which is led by a vice-director. These main departments comprise a number of departments or services (with a supporting or service function), each of which is in turn led by a department head or coordinator
