Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ) is an autonomous government body established in 1983 in Amman, Jordan that is responsible for the public and private water supply, wastewater services and water resources planning and monitoring throughout the country.
WAJ strives to adapt the latest technology in the water sector, achieve optimal water services, increase the number of people served with water and improve sanitation services. It builds dams and implements national strategic projects to ensure national water security. WAJ’s main mission is to contribute to social development and improve the living standards of the Jordanian population with ease of access to water for citizens in various regions of the Kingdom being its primary strategic goal. WAJ has formed the Royal Water Committee that ensures more efficient water supply security as well as reviewing and updating priority policies, programs and projects. WAJ reviews the legislation, regulations and instructions related to the water sector on an ongoing basis with the aim of providing an appropriate investment environment for the public and private sectors. It provides water for drinking purposes as well as for agricultural and industrial use. WAJ promotes water conservation and optimal water use, proposes new projects to develop water resources, performs sewerage works and monitors water quality.
