Description
By a decree issued by the Council of Ministers, the Benin government reaffirmed its political will to make decentralization and local governance the stepping stone of its development policy by creating a ministerial department responsible for decentralization.
The Minister of Decentralization and Local Governance under the provisions of Decree No. 417 of 20 July 2016 on the attributions, organization and functioning of the said Ministry, ensures the territorial administration and promotes good governance.
The Minister of Decentralization and Local Governance is the hierarchical authority of the heads of administrative districts and exercises the supervisory authority of the decentralized territorial authorities through the Prefects of the Departments.
As such, he follows and controls their management.
It is the recipient of all documents and correspondence from the ministerial departments to or from the administrative districts and the decentralized territorial communities.
Since February 20, 2019, Mr. SEÏDOU Alassane has the heavy but exhilarating mission to preside over the destinies of this giant ministerial department.
