Eight years into the armed conflict, the Syrian Arab Republic is still one of the largest and most complex crises globally. Over I I million people are still in need of humanitarian assistance inside Syria, including 5.7 million people who have been displaced, many of them multiple times. In addition, there are over 5.6 million registered Syrian refugees, including 2.6 million children, in a region faced with deepening economic, social, and development challenges. Sustained humanitarian access to people in need inside Syria remains difficult, with 1.1 million people living in UN-designated hard-to-reach areas.
