The Ministry of Trade and Industry has a number of explicit targets that have been laid down by law (Decree Task description of Departments of 10 October 1991).
These are:
the promotion of domestic and foreign trade, including import and export policy, in cooperation with the relevant ministries;
matters of a commercial policy nature and the granting of import, export and foreign exchange permits, insofar as they do not conflict with trade liberalization, all this in cooperation with the relevant ministries;
the policy for controlling the cost of living and the supervision of commercial, industrial and service activities;
the establishment and management of price controls, as well as quality standards, all in collaboration with the relevant Ministries;
industrial policy and the promotion of the industrial sector, with an emphasis on the export orientation of this sector;
the calibration and guarantee of the content of gold and silver, whether or not worked;
the policy with regard to the promotion of the craft industries.
MISSION
The ministry will undergo a transformation within 5 years:
1. Growth towards an innovative, professional and transparent ministry;
2. Diversify the economy and increase productivity;
3. Encouraging innovative and competitive companies;
4. Facilitating exports and strengthening economic diplomacy;
5. Ensuring fair market forces;
6. Inclusiveness through national spread of inclusive private sector

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has a visionary and leading role in sustainable and innovative economic development aimed at increasing the national and international competitiveness of Suriname, for the welfare and well-being of the total population.
