The National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) is a federal agency linked to the Ministry of Infrastructure, created by law No. 10,233, of June 5, 2001 . The legislation restructured Brazil's road, waterway and rail transport system, extinguishing the former National Department of Highways (DNER). DNIT's headquarters are in Brasília, in the Federal District. It currently has 25 regional administrative units - the superintendencies, and 8 waterway administrations.
