The Brazilian government department known as the Ministério da Justiça e Segurança Pública, or Ministry of Justice and Public Security, is in charge of developing and carrying out legislation with regard to social defense, public safety, and justice. Promoting public safety and defending Brazilian individuals' rights and liberties are the ministry's two key goals.
The Ministry of Justice and Public Security is responsible for a number of departments and services, including the Federal Police, the Federal Highway Police, the National Penitentiary Department, and the National Secretariat of Public Security. Its tasks include maintaining the country's prisons, combating crime, monitoring the immigration system, and enforcing public safety and justice programs. Along with its domestic obligations, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security is involved in international justice and security issues, including extradition and collaboration with other nations on transnational criminal issues.
