The Secretariat of Finance of Rio Grande do Sul (Sefaz RS) has its headquarters in Porto Alegre and is present throughout the State of Rio Grande do Sul, with about 3 thousand people working in its offices.

Its basic structure is laid down in Decree nº 55.290, of June 3, 2020, which also defines its areas of competence: tax administration; financial management; budget management, financial programming and release of budget resources; public debt management; public and corporate accounting; audit of public administration; fiscal stimulus policy; evaluation of the agreements and adjustments made by the Administration with the Union, the States and the Municipalities; debt identification and analysis of sources of funds; financial management of the state's personnel payroll; definition of global limits for budgeting and scheduling of release of budgetary and financial resources, compatible with the estimates and the collection of public revenue; administration of the public service of state lotteries; information technology and digital certification.
The state finance department of the state of Rio Grande do Sul is responsible for the finance part.
