Description

CGIAR Consortium is a non-governmental organization established in 2010 in Montpellier, France that brings together international organizations to conduct research in food security.

CGIAR, founded in 1971, is comprised of a number of member-countries including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, and Japan, as well as several companies such as the Ford Foundation, FAO, IFAD, UNDP, the World Bank, OPEC, and the European Commission. CGIAR’s four main strategic goals are to reduce poverty, improve food security, enhance nutrition and health care, and efficiently manage natural resources. It supports vulnerable communities and low-income producers and consumers around the world. The Consortium was formed with the purpose of supporting the CGIAR Strategy and Results Framework (SRF). In this way, the Consortium guides the work of CGIAR and develops CGIAR’s Research Programs some of which are CCAFS, FTA, WorldFish, WLE, and ICRISAT. The NGO’s impact is significant in that millions of people have been saved from hunger and poverty. CGIAR hopes to develop new approaches for food, land, and water systems.

CGIAR Consortium key sectors: Poverty Reduction, Socio-Economic Development, Environment & NRM, Aquaculture, Food Security, WASH, Nutrition, Health, Research & Innovation, Livestock, Programme Management, etc.
