The Probation Service's main task is to contribute to reducing crime by enforcing the sentences set by the courts. This means custodial sentences, including serving time with an electronic anklet, as well as supervision in connection with parole and conditional sentences, including community service.
The Correctional Service also handles, among other things, the administration of pre-trial detention, deprivation of liberty in accordance with the Aliens Act, the preparation of background checks on accused persons, the supervision of mentally ill criminals who have been convicted in accordance with §68 and §69 of the Penal Code, as well as the operation of departure centers for rejected asylum seekers.
