Sremska Mitrovica is situated in the north-west part of Serbia, south-west part of Vojvodina, at the contact of three different morphological units: plains of Srem and Mačva and Fruška Gora mountain. The city of Sremska Mitrovica represents the conurbation of the city itself, Laćarak village on the left bank of the river Sava and Mačvanska Mitrovica on the right bank of the river Sava and 23 villages. The settlements on the left and right banks of the Sava river, which is navigable, are connected by car and pedestrian bridges. The city itself is situated 40km from state borders with Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are two international roads at the territory of the city: E70 highway that represents part of the corridor 10 and international railway Vienna-Thessaloniki. Regional road R-116, which connects districts of Mačva and Srem should be mentioned, too. The city of Sremska Mitrovica is situated 70km from Belgrade, 65 km from Novi Sad and 50km from airport “Nikola Tesla“.
