Međimurje County is a triangle-shaped county in the northernmost part of Croatia, roughly corresponding to the historical and geographical region of Međimurje. Despite being the smallest Croatian county by size, it is the most densely populated one (not including the City of Zagreb). The county seat is Čakovec, which is also the largest city of the county.
The inhabitants of this part of Croatia are widely known for their developed work habits, entrepreneurship and innovation. It is a region with developed crafts and small entrepreneurship. Industrialization takes off with the construction of the railway, and the food, processing and textile industries develop.
Međimurje is also recognizable for its rich food and wine offer. The best wines in Croatia are produced here, and restaurateurs follow trends in food preparation and presentation, giving traditional food a contemporary touch.
