The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is a Nigerian federal agency responsible for the eradication of illicit drugs in the country. It was established by Decree Number 48 of 1989, which was later amended by the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004.
The agency is charged with the responsibility of coordinating drug control activities, enforcing drug laws, and preventing the production, trafficking, and abuse of illicit drugs in Nigeria. The NDLEA works closely with other law enforcement agencies, such as the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Customs Service, and the Nigerian Immigration Service, to combat drug trafficking and abuse.
The NDLEA has a wide range of functions, including drug demand reduction, drug supply reduction, and international cooperation. The agency is also responsible for the rehabilitation of drug addicts and the promotion of drug-free lifestyles. The NDLEA has a presence in all 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and it operates under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Justice.
