The Regulatory Council of the Protected Geographical Indication “ Faba Asturiana ” or “ Fabes de Asturias ” is the body in charge of defending the product covered by the Protected Geographical Indication, the application of its regulations and the promotion and control of the protected dry beans.
At the request of some producers of Faba Asturiana in 1989, the Department of Agriculture launched the creation of a provisional Regulatory Council of the Specific Denomination FABA ASTURIANA , which is made up of representatives of the producers, the packaging companies and the administration. According to Decree 29/1990, of March 8, of the Government Council of the Principality of Asturias, the Regulation of the Specific Denomination Faba Asturiana and its Regulatory Council is approved, and by the Order of July 6, 1990, of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing and Food, the Regulations of the Specific Denomination Faba Asturiana and its Regulatory Council are ratified, these being the national legislative requirements on which this Specific Denomination is based.
The Specific Denomination FABA ASTURIANA was registered as IGP FABA ASTURIANA in the list of registered DOP-IGP denominations in accordance with Regulation (EC) 1107/96 of the Commission, on June 21, 1996.
