Starogard County includes 13 communes and was created in 1999 as part of the administrative reform. Its seat is the city of Starogard Gdański. It covers the areas of Kociewie. Kociewie is the second largest (after Kashubia) ethnically and culturally compact region of Pomerania. Its area covers approximately 3,100 km2, mostly administratively belonging to the Pomeranian Voivodeship (28% is located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship). The capital of the Region is Starogard Gdański, with a population of 48,000.
