UNHCR’s activities in the Northern Europe region are currently overseen by the UNHCR Regional Representation for Northern Europe located in Stockholm, Sweden, in addition to the UNHCR National Liaison Office, Vilnius, Lithuania.
UNHCR’s presence in Northern Europe was first established when the Regional Office for the Nordic Countries, located in Stockholm, Sweden, was opened in 1985. The office was initially responsible for UNHCR’s activities in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden and was later expanded to include activities in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
