Mats Lannerstad’s entire education focuses on water from different research discipline angles, and stretches from local freshwater ecology concerns to water related and water dependent global
agricultural changes and challenges. Mats holds a Ph.D. in Water and Environmental Studies, a M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure, and a M.Sc. in Biology/
Limnology.
Currently Mats Lannerstad works as an independent consultant, mainly engaged in a DFID-funded 4-year project, led by SEI at York University. May 2014 – April 2016 Mats worked as
Senior Scientist in the Livestock Systems and the Environment programme (LSE) at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)-HQ in Nairobi. He held two ILRI Science Focal
Point positions, for 1) the CGIAR Research Program (CRP) Water, Land and Ecosystems (WLE) and for 2) the Flagship Systems Analyses for Sustainable Innovations (SASI) under the CRP
Livestock and Fish (L&F). Between February 2012 and April 2014 he was a joint appointee between SEI and ILRI, in the research team Sustainable Livestock Futures (SLF), and from
September 2009 to May 2014 Mats was employed as Research Fellow at Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), Stockholm.
