BIO
Andrew received his BA in International Relations, English, and Civil Law, from Fourah Bay College of the University of Sierra Leone, in 1998.
Andrew made a significant contribution to the Campaign for Good Governance, Democracy and Human Rights, in Conakry Guinea, joining compatriots from Sierra Leone in several workshops producing a range of advocacy materials for peace building, good governance, human rights and for the restoration of democracy in Sierra Leone in 1998.
He was the recipient of the James B. Boskey Memorial Fresh Faces Awards, offered by the Society of Professionals In Dispute Resolution (SPIDR): For his insightful essay and roles in Dispute Resolution 2000.
He was a participant at the Program on Negotiation Spring Seminar on Mediation and Participatory Processes from May 1st to 10th 2001 Harvard University and supervised by Dr. Frank Elbers
Andrew has more than 2 decades of experience in the non-profit sector, youth and technology and the issues of child soldiers and human rights of children in areas of conflict. He has traveled world-wide, from Beijing to Moscow, to Washington, to share his vision of using information technology amongst children and war scarred youth.
A referee once noted that: ‘Mr. Greene’s efforts have had a profound effect on the minds of young people around the world, from Sierra Leone to Cambodia to Afghanistan. His efforts attracted the United Nations to his project as a model to be used in countries affected by war”.
His 'Child Soldiers project, and Peace and Reconciliation Project won 2nd place at the Cable and Wireless Childnet Awards at the Science Museum in London in 2003 in the 'New to the Net' category for making the internet a great place for children and youth affected by war as well as creating digital opportunities for global educational exchanges. During the week of the awards, Andrew was interviewed by Tracy Logan producer of the BBC 'Go Digital Technology' program at the BBC Bush House Studios, London in April 2003, about his vision of using innovative technology to transform the lives of children and youth affected by war.
Andrew received the Bremen Peace Awards (Commendation) offered by the Threshold Foundation in Germany in 2003 and his project was included in the awards publication 'Courageously Crossing Boundaries'.
He was a presenter and participant at the 1st UN World Summit on the Information (WSIS), in Geneva in 2003.
Andrew has gathered multiple awards, citations, and bursaries for his peace building efforts and Internet-based innovations.
For several years in Sierra Leone, he has overseen and coordinated the successfully implementation of War Child Canada DFAIT funded project No War Zone.
He was on the shortlist of Stanford University Digital Visions Fellows in 2004.
He was a presenter at the 36th Annual Session of The Hague International Model United Nations THIMUN, in The Netherlands, 2004.
Andrew was a distinguished Sauve Scholar at McGill University in Montreal Canada in 2004/5.
He was Guest Speaker at the International Cooporations Days (ICD), 'Millennium, Development Goals, Moving from Consensus to Momentum', hosted by the then Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), in Ottawa 2004.
He was consulted twice by the World Bank DC as part of the production and consultation team in Sierra Leone to help in the production of the 2007 World Development Report (WDR), Focusing on Youth Employment and the 'Next Generation'.
His Child Soldiers Project and Peace and Reconciliation projects were also shortlisted winners for the Global Junior Challenge in Rome Italy 2007.
He was a United Nations ITU Telecom World Young Digital Innovation Fellow in Geneva in 2011.
Andrew was a Build Peace through technology fellow at the MIT Media Lab in Boston 2014.
Andrew is pursuing a Master of Science in Law at the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law, focusing on Patent and Cybersecurity Law, and where he received the Heather Heyer Foundation Scholarship.
Whilst in Maryland, Andrew is also actively contributing to the work of organizations such as the Maryland United for Peace and Justice (MUPJ), Maryland Conservation Council, MCC (environment), and the Refuge Immigration Services and Empowerment (RISE). He has also contributed to the American Promise and a member of the Friends Committee on National Legislature (FCNL).
