Adrianus has both public and private sector experience spanning Europe, Africa and Asia and has predominantly worked in advising governments and government agencies on financial sector regulation and supervision, setting up various pension and insurance schemes, and more recently in long-term finance and infrastructure finance and the funding of state corporations and sub-sovereign government.

He currently works as a consultant for various institutions predominantly focused on financial sector development, regulation and supervision in Africa and Asia.

The below provides a summary of my consulting work and expertise:

  1. Insurance and Pension Diagnostics, Regulation and Supervision and market development. My principal line of work and consulting has been in providing technical assistance on the policy, legislative, institutional and supervisory reform for the insurance (Life, non-life and health) and pensions in various (developing) jurisdictions. Due to the development stage of the markets I have consulted in, all engagements typically are geared towards financial system development.
  2. Review, assessment and setting up public sector, other statutory funds, private insurers and pension funds. I also have significant experience in conducting assessments of statutory pension and insurance funds (i.e. public sector pensions or other statutory insurance/social security funds), private insurers and pension funds.
  3. Institutional investment, infrastructure finance, financing State Owned Enterprises. I have conducted various projects related to funding and financing infrastructure, state owned Enterprises and development projects using institutional investment (insurance, pensions, other).
  4. Disaster risk finance and insurance, other consultancies. Finally, I am also currently developing disaster risk finance strategies and assessing disaster risk insurance schemes, and other insurance/financial sector related consultancies.

Prior to consulting, Adrianus served as an executive at NAMFISA, the non-bank financial sector regulator in Namibia. He has also worked as a pricing actuary for Swiss Re Life and Health in the Netherlands and as an actuarial consultant for Alexander Forbes Financial Services in Namibia.

He holds a Bachelors degree in Actuarial Science from the London School of Economics, an MBA from the University of Cape Town and is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in the UK.
