About
Bilingual in both English and French, Akoro is a committed program specialist, researcher, and activist with vast professional experience in the areas of HIV/AIDS, youth, gender, LGBTI rights, sexual and reproductive health rights, philanthropy, human rights, and culture. He has strong knowledge and experience in research including operational research, program development/management, fundraising (resource mobilization), budget management, needs assessment, writing of technical documents (policy papers), as well as project monitoring and evaluation.
He has work experience in over 15 countries in Africa and 12 years of professional experience as Executive Director of a human rights non-profit organization based in Lagos, Nigeria, consultant in policy advocacy and organizational development, a journalist in a media-based non-governmental organization, and project (grant) officer in an intergovernmental organization – United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, France.
Over the past year, Akoro has successfully completed the following:
- End-of-project/program evaluation for MenEngage Alliance and the Baring Foundation,
- Baseline study on the engagement of women and girls in health programming and policymaking in West and Central Africa funded by the Global Fund for Tuberculosis, AIDS, and Malaria,
- Baseline study on the situation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in relation to employment in West Africa funded by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights,
- Data analysis and reporting on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Black LGBTQI people globally funded by the Black Gay Men Connect.
- Project evaluation: Deep Dive Nigeria Case Study of the Women's Voice and Leadership project in Nigeria funded by Global Affair Canada.
He is interested in short or long-term missions related to any of the following; research, impact assessment, organizational development, project development/management/evaluation, policy reviews, and translation (English/French).
