Steve Raaymakers is the founder and principal of EcoStrategic Consultants. He has over 22 years experience in coastal and oceans management, with specialist expertise in environmental issues relating to the shipping, ports and related industries. His experience includes five years as Chief Technical Advisor / Technical Adviser in the Marine Environment Division of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), where he managed a major global technical cooperation programme. He has also worked as Marine Adviser at the South Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), environmental adviser to the ports industry in Australia, and with the Great Barrier Reef Authority.

As a consultant Steve advises industry and governments on many IMO-related issues, including prevention and control of marine pollution and marine bio-invasions, marine pollution preparedness and response, environmental response to shipping incidents, environmental assessment and management of major port developments, as well as maritime law and legislative drafting. Steve also works in the design, development, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of technical cooperation programmes and projects, and has worked in over 55 countries. He has a Bachelor of Science in marine biology and natural resource management and is currently completing a PhD in international maritime law.
