About
Public Health/Epidemiology:
• Assessing the community health through collection, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, consolidations and disseminations of data to guide the public health official to come up with the sound recommendations on the prevention and control of health related events or diseases.
• Conducting research on the occurrence of the diseases in the community by employing descriptive epidemiology in relation to time, person and place.
• Collaborating with other medical /environmental, laboratorians and other clinical staff on establishing the determinants of health related events.
• Determine the appropriate research strategy and study design, writing justifications and protocols, calculating samples size, deciding on criteria for subject selections and choosing an appropriate comparison group, and design questionnaires.
• Involve in securing appropriate clearances and approvals adhering to appropriate ethical principles, abstracting records, tracking down and interviewing subjects, collecting and handling specimens, and managing the data.
Occupational Health Resposbilities:
• Identify, assess and control health hazards in the work place, and understand how to prevent and control work hazards such as biological, physical, chemical and ergonomics.
• Undertake surveys and evaluate risks to health in the work place.
• Accurately measure the sample levels of exposure often through precise use of specialist equipment.
• Records facts or details of procedures in the work place.
• Eliminate or significantly reduce risk by making organizational changes and selecting and design relevant facilities.
• Consider all options of control, such as ventilations, containment and personal protective equipment, and find cost effective solutions.
• Liaise with the range of people including employers and employees on the process of evaluating work place.
• Provide clear and accurate information’s on complex health and safety issues.
• Train organisations, and staff on issues such asbestosis, silicosis and control substance hazardous to health regulations awareness.
• Persuade company management to develop effective hazard control when required. Provide expert witness service.
• Conduct and regulate public affairs at health facility.
Internal Medicines Resposiblities:
• Carry out legal medical matters on the absence of the medical Doctor.
• Conduct, physical examinations on patients carry out various medical/radiological investigations, interprets results to the patients and the possible diagnosis.
• Give prescriptions drugs to patients in line with the diagnosis.
• Admit and discharge patients in the hospital.
• Fully acquainted with disease concepts.
• Attend to patients with retro viral infections (HIV), Prescribe ARVS in line with the Zambia national consolidated guide lines of management of HIV/TB.
• Well guided on the management of pediatrics HIV related illness.
• Maintain and respect hospital /medical ethics.
• Conduct surgical procedures in the hospital/clinic.
• Refer patients to the next level of managements.
• Certification of dead bodies.
