About
Dr. Jan-Niklas Bamler currently acts as part of the International Projects team, the staff department for international projects at bremenports.
As a doctoral and master’s student in environmental and economic geography, manager, senior consultant, project, technology and knowledge transfer manager, he has gathered extensive experience in international, inter- and trans-disciplinary research and consulting, especially on the topics of development assistance, sustainability, smart ports, inland waterways, traffic infrastructure development, value and supply chains.
At bremenports Dr Bamler is responsible for managing several high-ranking consulting and EU-funded research projects concerned with infrastructure development, inland and container shipping, shore power, digitalisation and automation. He is further concerned with the acquisition and management of national and international consulting and port development projects, empirical research within the scope of these and the development of the in-house knowledge.
Before joining bremenports, Dr Bamler gathered widespread experience at several high-ranking consultancy companies, as a manager at the meliorate GmbH where he lead the port projects team, concerned himself with ISO 55000 certifications for asset management and the optimisation of processes, at WAGENER & HERBST GmbH as a senior project manager and consultant where he was concerned with several port development studies dealing with containerized freight, extensive studies on the provision of region-wide logistics infrastructure in eastern Germany to help deal with local economic change, spatial planning, GIS analysis and illustrations and the handling of large, quantitative data.
His professional background further covers many years of experience at leading international think tanks concerned with sustainabilty, the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT GmbH) as a project manager, business developer, knowledge and technology transfer officer in the realm of marine economics, sciences and sustainability, as a lecturer at the University of Cologne on the topics of empirical research and regional development, as a researcher at the Center for Development Research in Bonn (ZEF) on the topic of value chains and climate change and USAID and GIZ development assistance programs, as a consultant for non-governmental organizations and as part of feasibility studies and studies on international trade, industrial processing of agricultural products and their global supply and value chains.
Dr. Bamler's studies, research projects and consulting activities at home and abroad (Germany, Europe, South America, Africa, USA) were consistently characterized by practical relevance, holism and innovation, which enabled him to receive scholarships from several renowned German institutions (e.g. DAAD , BMBF) and thus to develop a state-of-the-art, application-oriented knowledge.
