About

I have long 35 years of working experience in the area of Rule of Law, Access to Justice, and Human Rights. I am a human rights lawyer and a defender to protect the rights of extremely vulnerable and socially excluded community people, especially women and children. I have significantly contributed towards activating the rural justice mechanism which is a kind of quasi-formal as it is called the "Village Court"  enacted by the parliament of Bangladesh back in 2006 ( formerly it was an ordinance promulgated in 1976). I played a key role in implementing the village court program through the UNDP Bangladesh country office funded by the EU and the total funding was Euro. 50 million. The project got huge results in creating accessing justice for rural poor people, especially women and children. I have also played a role to institutionalize community mediation which is very common in rural and urban Bangladesh to resolve community conflict, the mechanism is being used almost in 39 districts of Bangladesh and abroad ( Nepal, Srilanka, and Malawi).  Though it was a challenging job to identify the windows to support the Bangladesh Judiciary which was struggling with huge case backlogs around 4 million while only 3000 judges are in critical condition in the dispensation of justice. In this stage, through the Judicial Strengthening Project of UNDP, I have provided my high technical skills to identify the areas of the flows in the laws and its processes and to take effective measures in reducing huge case backlogs as well as support the Supreme Court to introduce database to track the cases for long pending cases to address those. As a program officer of UNDP, I have also provided them support to enhance their leadership capacity to develop a road map to address the problem in Bangladesh's Judiciary.

Currently, I am working with the Bangladesh police to enhance their capacity so that they can effectively protect the Rohingya Communites in Bangladesh. I am a negotiator and mediator and have huge experience of conflcit resolution and worked to draft the new law and reform the same as well. I am a trainer and a facilitator to conduct the workshop and meeting and have high skills in building partnerships with all.
