About

Mr Erik Klitgaard Nielsen has 35 year’s international experience within the field of water and wastewater collection, treatment and disposal, with numerous successful installations. His country experience includes Denmark, Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, Slovenia, China, Montenegro, Romania, Armenia, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Bangladesh, and Kyrgyzstan.

 

He has a solid background in all aspects of the water and wastewater engineering field and has held numerous positions within the field which include: Contracts Execution Manager, Project Manager/Team Leader, Wastewater and Sludge Disposal Specialist, Process/Mechanical Wastewater Design Engineer, Evaluation Member with voting rights for EU funded projects as well as Millenium Challenge Account projects, Wastewater Management Expert.

 

Presently he is working as a Consultant on a World Bank project providing a quality assurance review for a large wastewater project in Vietnam. Prior to the he was he was working as a Consultant to ADB on a wastewater project in Kyrgyzstan and he was, as a Consultant to ADB, Team Leader on a large wastewater project entailing two wastewater treatment plants in Bangladesh. The project entailed the preparation of detailed engineering design report and tender documents, in FIDIC under ADB Guide Lines, for a local water company under a contract with Asian Development Bank.

 

Also, as an Individual Consultant to ADB he has prepared a consultancy as a sludge expert providing expertise to a large Chinese Water Company. Furthermore, experience from wastewater planning in Cambodia on an ADB financed project.

Prior to this, he has 7 years of experience from Sri Lanka where has been stationed during and upgrading of 17 large pump stations in Greater Colombo financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and preparation of feasibility study, predesign, costing of two large wastewater treatment plants and preparation of Tender Documents in FIDIC under ADB Guidelines.


Between 2006 and 2011 he worked mainly on EU projects with the main focus on the former eastern block countries under EU ISPA contracts and hereunder he was part of Technical Assistance project for preparation in the drinking water and wastewater sector in 5 counties, in Western Romania: Preparation of Feasibility Studies for Alba County and Valcea County, Sludge Management Strategies, and EU Cohesion Fund Application, and identification of priority investments.


Also, projects under KFW Entwiklungsbank of Germany, African Development Bank (AfDB) Project inUganda, and a Millenium Challenge Account project in Armenia are all part of Mr Klitgaard Nielsen’s experience base. He is experienced in conceptual and detailed design, and in the preparation of Master Plans, Investment Plans, Feasibility studies, Sludge Management Strategies, and Industrial Action Plans. Mr. Nielsen has been preparing Tender Documents under African Development Guidelines, Asian Development Guidelines, FIDIC Yellow Book and Gold Book Contracts and hereunder Operations & Maintenance contracts.

 

Earlier on, for 5 years, he worked as a Contracts Execution Manager responsible for execution of contracts mainly in China on large water and wastewater projects financed by DANIDA and Nordic Investment Bank.

 

In his early career he was working in Canada for 8 years engineering and construction wastewater treatment plants for as municipalities as well as large pulp & paper wastewater treatment facilities.

 

Mr Nielsen has a B.Sc in Civil Engineering where he specialised in water and waste water treatment, and sludge management. He speaks and writes in fluent English.
