About

The work of Dominick Shattuck reflects his continued effort to push the rigor of public health interventions and the conversion of findings into meaningful policies. His work is informed by professional experiences where he facilitates adolescent and adult learning on topics including social and gender norms, HIV prevention, and reproductive health. Dominick’s experience ranges across community-level and provision of health services for women and men while integrating stakeholder feedback and investment into programmatic design. This experience is evident in several projects that include: The Pragati games for adolescents in Nepal, an assessment of HIV counselors Kenya, implementation of HIV incidence and capacity development projects in Tanzania and Ethiopia where the key beneficiaries were sex workers. He has led cutting edge and innovative projects including the Malawi Male Motivators project (the first randomized trial of male engagement in family planning), the integration of no-scalpel vasectomy into the Rwandan health system, and the Dot Study (a prospective cohort study assessing the efficacy of a fertility tracking app to prevent pregnancy).

Built on the belief that the inclusion of men’s health services should be seen as complementary to women’s health priorities, Dominick has championed the inclusion of men and boys in reproductive health services. His advocacy for men’s and boys’ inclusion in reproductive health was supported by projects where he coordinated the implementation of vasectomy services and monitoring systems, developed research articles, blogs and presentations, as well as established channels for interpersonal advocacy among donors, government officials, and others public health professionals. Currently, Dr. Shattuck is Co-Chair of the USAID sponsored Male Engagement Task Force and Co-Chair of the Male Engagement section within International Conference for Family Planning.
