A water and wastewater process scientist with more than 38 years experience in the water industry of operations and design, including trade effluent control and regulation.

Experience of working throughout the UK and the following countries – China, Russia (3 projects), Romania (3 projects), Bulgaria, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, Ireland, Bosnia (2 projects), Iraq, Kurdistan and Sierra Leone.

Areas of detailed experience include:

• Process design of water and wastewater treatment plants, including pilot plants;
• Master-planning of water and wastewater infrastructure, including sludge treatment and reuse;
• Feasibility studies to appraise investment options, including financial analysis;
• Risk assessments of technical and business projects and devising risk management plans;
• Project management of multi-disciplinary technical projects, business projects for a major financial institution and military experience with the reserve forces, including combat operations in Afghanistan;
• Achieving success and progress in different cultures, languages and organisational structures;
• Leader of detailed design teams including preparation of contract documents in FIDIC;
• Use of proprietary process design models (ATV, STOM) & development of own design models;
• Leadership of technical staff, including mentoring and organisation of technical seminars;
• Working for funding agencies such as World Bank, DFiD, EBRD, EC, and EIB;
• Training of own and Clients’ staff and technical presentations to Clients and colleagues;
• Tender analysis & recommendation, including design of tender assessment procedures.
