About
Since my graduation in Mechanical Engineering in 1974 from the then Engineering College, Chittagong (affiliated under Chittagong University, Bangladesh), I started my career as a field engineering staff of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). Till the end of 1991 I had been serving BADC with the responsibilities of planning and development of minor irrigation schemes (of varying sizes up to a maximum of 50 ha land) based on groundwater withdrawal in the rural areas of semi-arid region in Bangladesh. Responsibilities also included design of Deep Tube Wells (DTWs) and Shallow Tube Wells (STWs) with irrigation water distribution systems. I pursued the course of M.Sc. in Irrigation Engineering at the Institute of Irrigation Studies under Civil Engineering Department of Southampton University, UK during 1987and 1988; and was awarded the degree of M.Sc (Irri. Engg.) after successful completion in 1988. Thereafter I engaged myself as a Consulting Engineer in the field of Irrigation and Water Management in various water resources development projects in Bangladesh. At present I have been working as the Executive Director in DevConsultants Limited, an organization for supporting development initiatives in Bangladesh and looking after the projects of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
My line of expertise specially covers Participatory Water Management with Capacity Strengthening at the local stakeholders' level for sustained Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of the water management systems built. As the most pertinent issues, I had also gathered experiences in institution building and capacity strengthening of water users at the grass-root level in irrigation and water management projects.
In the mean time I have completed various assignments at the capacities of O&M Specialist, Water Resources Management Specialist, Institutional Development Specialist, O&M Training Specialist, and Institutional Advisor in different development projects. Of late, my responsibilities as Water Resources Engineer are noteworthy in the program of "Water as Leverage- for the Resilient Cities in Asia" sponsored by the Royal Netherlands authority i.e Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl) to develop transformative resilience projects in the field of water, climate adaptation and urban planning.
