The ERCEA, assisted by independent experts, has completed the evaluation of proposals submitted to the above call. The names of the experts that evaluated Horizon Europe proposals are published, collectively for each part of Horizon Europe and once per year, on the FUNDING & TENDERS PORTAL.
The results of the evaluation are as follows:
Number of submitted proposals: 283
Number of inadmissible proposals: 1
Number of ineligible proposals: 23
Number of withdrawn proposals: 0
Number of above-threshold proposals [1]: 241
Number of proposals retained for funding [1]: 102
Total budget requested for proposals retained for funding: 15.300.000 €
We informed the applicants about the evaluation results for their proposals on 19 December 2023.
[1] The number of proposals that can finally be funded depends on the final available budget and the completion of the formal procedures needed to conclude grant agreements.
The first grant agreements are expected to be signed in February/March 2024.
Information on the selected projects will be published on CORDIS after signature of the grant agreements.

The ERC-2024-PoC call, published on 16 November 2023, is open for submission on the Funding & Tender opportunities Portal, with 2 cut-off dates (deadlines): 14 March 2024 and 17 September 2024 (17:00:00 time zone Brussels time).

The ERC PROOF OF CONCEPT GRANT Call for proposals – 3rd cut-off deadline – (ERC-2023-PoC-DL3) has closed on 21 September 2023 at 17:00 (Brussels local time).
A total of 283 proposals were submitted in response to the third and final deadline (21 September 2023) of the ERC 2023 Proof of Concept Call. This represents a 20,94 % increase compared to the third cut-off deadline of 2022 (ERC-2022-PoC2 call).
Overall, the ERC 2023 Proof of Concept call received 608 proposals, which represents an increase of 33 % compared to the ERC-PoC-2022-2 call.
The ERC-2024-PoC call will be published on 16 November 2023 and open for submission on the Funding & Tender opportunities Portal, with 2 cut-off dates (deadlines): 14 March 2024 and 17 September 2024 (17:00:00 time zone Brussels time).

Dear Applicant,
Please note that the Declaration 10 (listed in section 1 of the administrative form) is not applicable to the ERC Proof of Concept Lump Sum grant calls, and hence may be confusing. At the moment however, the Declaration 10 appears as mandatory in the submission system. We therefore advise you to simply avoid any blocking at submission, by ticking the Declaration 10 box, even if not applicable for the call. We apologize for this inconvenience.

NB: Please note that the correct date for the third (last) cut-off deadline to apply to the ERC-2023-PoC call is: 21 September 2023.
Some applicants might have noticed a discrepancy with the deadline mentioned in the ERC Work Programme 2023.
At the time of its publication, last July 2022, the ERC Work Programme 2023 timetable mentioned the date of 14 September 2023 for the last cut-off date, with the following footnote (66) – see page 46:
“The dates in this table are indicative. The Director of the European Research Council Executive Agency may open a call or contest up to one month prior to or after the envisaged opening date. The Director may delay the envisaged cut-off date or deadline by up to two months. “
Indeed, due to logistic constraints, the final cut-off deadline for the ERC-2023-PoC call had to be postponed from 14 to 21 September 2023, to avoid any overloading of the IT submission system and ensure the best IT environment possible for Applicants.

Objectives:The ERC Proof of Concept Grants aim at facilitating exploration of the commercial and social innovation potential of ERC funded research, by funding further work (i.e. activities which were not scheduled to be funded by the original ERC frontier research grant) to verify the innovation potential of ideas arising from ERC funded projects. Proof of Concept Grants are therefore on offer only to Principal Investigators whose proposals draw substantially on their ERC funded research.
Scope:Size of ERC Proof of Concept Grants:
The financial contribution will be awarded as a lump sum of EUR 150 000 for a period of 18 months. The ERC expects that, normally, proof of concept activities should be completed within 12 months. However, to allow for those projects that require more preparation time, the grant agreements will be signed for 18 months. Extensions of the duration of proof of concept projects may be granted only exceptionally.The lump sum will cover the beneficiaries' direct and indirect eligible costs for the project: if the project is implemented properly, the amounts will be paid regardless of the costs actually incurred. The lump sum has been designed to cover the beneficiaries’ personnel costs, subcontracting, purchase costs, other cost categories, and indirect costs.
Profile of the ERC Proof of Concept Eligible Principal Investigator:
All Principal Investigators in an ongoing ERC main grant or in a ERC main grant that has ended less than 12 months before 1 January 2023, are eligible to apply for an ERC Proof of Concept Grant.
