Description

The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining communications products and processes to support the FEWS NET Learning and Data Hub project. The Communications Specialist will focus on communications and social media activities for both internal and external audiences, supporting messaging and branding across platforms for consistent delivery of high-quality communications products representing the FEWS NET project as a whole. In addition, the Communications Specialist will contribute to regular project reporting and general communications tasks. The Communications Specialist achieves this through expertise in communications practices, technical writing and software applications supporting online communications, learning and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deliver and maintain communications guidance, synthesis documents, and standardized communications materials including documents, slides and training content.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into accessible reporting, communications products, documentation for data visualizations and other value-added products.
  • Support data platform documentation through checks for compliance with style and brand guidance.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Technical Communications Specialist to develop multimedia training content for data platforms through brief video tutorials, help systems, and online user guides.
  • Manage social media platforms assigned to the Hub as part of the broader FEWS NET outreach strategy.
  • Support routine task order communications such as monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Document monthly collaboration meetings and author the reporting deliverable.
  • Write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences.
  • Consult with stakeholders to assist in implementing updates to software documentation.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, computer science, data analytics, international development or related field.
  • Two to three years of relevant work experience.
  • Proven experience in technical writing required, with a focus on data and analysis a plus.
  • Excellent communication strategy and planning skills. Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Skilled at prioritization and multitasking

Preferred

  • Proficiency with Google Workplace.
  • Experience managing social media tools such as Hootsuite, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Youtube.
  • Background in international development and government contracting.
