Description

Program Description (Background)

International Medical Corps is a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through healthcare training and relief and development programs.

Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in areas worldwide. By offering training and healthcare to local populations and medical assistance to people at high risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated healthcare systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.

Background

When catastrophe hits, International Medical Corps is often one of the first humanitarian aid organizations on the scene providing rapid and effective aid that saves lives, reduces suffering, and promotes self-reliance.

International Medical Corps provides safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient centered care; offers needs-based response according to the context and type of sudden onset disaster (SOD) and/or outbreak in the affected nation; adopts a human rights-based approach to its response; ensures it is accessible to all sections of the population affected by the SOD and/or outbreak, particularly the vulnerable; and treats patients in a medically ethical manner.

In Poland, with support from private and institutional donors, International Medical Corps is providing health, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and multi-purpose cash programming support for Ukrainian and third-country national refugees. Since the beginning of the Russian Federation’s military offensive in late February 2022, five million refugees – the great majority of whom are women and children – have fled Ukraine, with the largest number arriving in Poland.

Social support available to refugees in Poland has been provided via structured and unstructured networks of volunteers, civil society organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). As a result, International Medical Corps has partnered with a network of local NGOs to provide immediate support to the millions of refugees residing in Poland. As the team continues to support this network, International Medical Corps is also launching a series of programs that will focus on providing direct services – including MHPSS, GBV, CP and multi-purpose cash assistance – to serve the most vulnerable.

This position will support International Medical Corps’ emergency response efforts in Poland – focusing on providing short- and long-term support to Ukrainian refugees and third-country nationals.

Candidates will be required to show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, Measles and any other mandatory vaccine requirement (country dependent) prior to deployment. Reasonable accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis for exemptions to this requirement in accordance with applicable law.  Applicants should be aware that for certain positions involving emergency deployments, accommodations that involve remaining unvaccinated against COVID-19 may not be deemed reasonable. International Medical Corps will engage in the interactive process on an individualized basis in light of each particular role.
