Portuguese Interpreter/Translator, Evaluation of USAID/South Africa Southern Africa Energy Program, Remote

Proposal Objective: 

SI is pursuing a five-month evaluation of USAID’s Southern Africa Energy Program (SAEP) to understand how effective the SAEP activity’s efforts were/are to increase electricity availability and access in Southern Africa by facilitating transactions and strengthening the enabling environment for private sector investment in power, with a focus on clean energy. 

Position Description: 

SI is seeking a local interpreter/translator to provide Portuguese-English language support for translation of interview and survey data collection tools, as well as consecutive interpretation for the evaluation team during Key Informant Interviews. Translation of interview scripts and tools will be requested between June 6th and June 17th, 2022. Data collection is tentatively scheduled to occur from June 27th to July 22nd, 2022. During this time the evaluation team will work remotely to collect qualitative and quantitative data. This assignment requires approximately 10 days of labor between June and July of 2022. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide translation of interview scripts and survey tools 

  • Provide Portuguese-English consecutive interpretation for SI employees and consultants in meetings with local relevant stakeholders. 

  • Provide Portuguese-English consecutive interpretation for SI employees and consultants in focus group discussions and key informant interviews. 

  • Work closely with SI HQ team and communicate in a timely and effective manner with all project personnel. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. 

  • Previous professional experience as an interpreter and translator required. 

  • Fluency in English and Portuguese is required, fluency in languages relevant to the Southern Africa region is a plus.   

  • Familiarity with the energy sector in Southern Africa preferred 

  • Experience working on USAID evaluations or USAID funded projects preferred. 

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
