Description

Intern: Economic and Financial Research

Location: Washington, D.C.

Castalia is seeking candidates for up to five internship positions. The position will be based in Castalia’s Washington, DC office working with the Sustainability Practice or Water Practice. The interns would be responsible for:

  • Conducting economic and financial research, analysis, and modelling;
  • Producing written and visual outputs to clearly and concisely communicate the results of the analysis and modelling to clients; and
  • Assisting with business development efforts.

The position is full-time or part-time, ideally at least 16 hours per week, and paid on a fortnightly basis. The internship will be on a daily rate and will be pro-rated for any days where you work less than 8 hours. No benefits (paid holidays or paid leave, health insurance, etc.) apply. The internship start date is flexible (October 2022 preferred) and there is the possibility to extend or transition to a permanent position.

Who we’re looking for

Castalia is seeking candidates who are currently enrolled in a relevant graduate or undergraduate program (for example, international economics, finance, and policy) and expect to graduate in the next 18 months or have graduated in the last 12 months.

  • A strong grasp of microeconomics and/or finance
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, and an ability to apply theory to real problems
  • Native-level fluency in English
  • Excellent writing skills (in English), including the ability to synthesize complex issues clearly and concisely
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Professionalism and self-motivation, including an ability to:
    • Work well in cross-cultural environments and work well in a team
    • Learn quickly and take initiative to teach oneself needed skills
    • Take initiative while working with limited supervision
    • Take professional ownership of the work being undertaken.

We’d love if you have

  • Professional working fluency in French, Spanish, Arabic, and/or Portuguese
  • Advanced Excel skills (logical formulas, lookups, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Experience building financial models (i.e. containing all three financial statements)
  • Relevant work experience in infrastructure, specifically related to public-private partnerships or urban utilities
  • Experience in consulting or working for a financial institution.
