Description

The position is to be as soon as possible, with a contract duration of two years. The position is a 80% part-time employment and based in Bonn, Germany, with readiness for deployment within 48 hours.

 

As Advisor Humanitarian Protection you will strengthen and sharpen Welthungerhilfe's work in the thematic field of humanitarian protection. In your role, you will, on one hand, support Welthungerhilfe in building and strengthening appropriate capacities in protection with particular attention to country offices and their programmes (2/3 of working time). On the other hand you will ensure relevant relevant support as part of Welthungerhilfe's emergency response team to country teams before and during emergency responses.

Your responsibilities

Strategic Protection:

  • Conceptual development and implementation of protection mainstreaming and localization activities as well as advisory and technical support to country offices and project partners
  • Awareness raising and capacity building of the country teams as well as partner organizations and the emergency response team to ensure protection mainstreaming in Welthungerhilfe
  • Strategic analysis and processing of experiences from practical protection work for use/consideration in program and project design as well as in advocacy and policy work of Welthungerhilfe
  • Development and introduction of handouts and training materials in protection, taking into account relevant current approaches and methods
  • Raising awareness and building capacity to prevent gender-based violence (GBV) and to promote child protection and inclusion in Welthungerhilfe's project work, including special attention to the protection needs of refugees and IDPs
  • Representation of Welthungerhilfe and participation in relevant expert forums / meetings / conferences / platformson protection

Protection Emergency Response Team (ERT):

  • Support in the planning and implementation of projects in emergency response within the ERT
  • Supporting the conceptual development of the Humanitarian Assistance funding area, as well as capacity building on emergency-relevant work areas in WHH program countries
  • Support in development and implementation of emergency measures both within and outside WHH project countries along the entire project cycle
  • Networking as well as representation of Welthungerhilfe in relevant coordination bodies as well as towards Alliance2015 in the country of operation
  • Identification of co-financing opportunities as well as support and coordination of the development of timely project applications
  • Capacity building in emergency-related topics in WHH program countries to build capacity

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnical degree in a relevant field
  • At least three years of professional experience in emergency relief cooperation in the field of humanitarian protection
  • Experience in project development and implementation, as well as knowledge of relevant needs assessment methods (Needs Assessment)
  • Experience in establishing participatory methods in project planning and implementation and in establishing appropriate grievance mechanisms
  • Experience in humanitarian networking and representation
  • Willingness to work in situations with high security risk, very high workload and under extreme living and working conditions
  • Willingness to leave the country within 48 hours of being alerted
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe's programme countries
  • Proficiency in English and French both written and spoken; German and other language skills are an advantage
