Scope
IISD hosts the Secretariat to the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Metals, Minerals and Sustainable Development (IGF). The Policy Advisor will support the work of the IGF Secretariat. The Policy Advisor will contribute to the implementation of policy research and outputs, analysis for evidence-based policies, and the delivery and development of projects across all IGF programs.
The work will include engagement and outreach with member governments in the Americas region. This will require the ability to work effectively in both English and Spanish. The candidate should enjoy diversity in their workday and have a passion for learning. Some international travel will be required. The Policy Advisor will report to the Senior Law Advisor, IGF.
Responsibilities
Conduct primary and secondary research and write policy outputs to the required standard, including policy briefs, research reports, donor reports, and technical reports.
Conduct Secretariat outreach and engagement with IGF member governments in the Americas region.
Collaborate with IGF Secretariat staff, affiliates, partners, and consultants in the design and implementation of projects.
Prepare, present, and communicate high-quality research findings to a variety of audiences.
Support the organization and documentation of webinars, meetings, and training programs as required.
Review research or communications materials in Spanish for translation accuracy, ranging from reports to blogs.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related discipline (e.g., economics, international development, law, policy).
Working fluency in English and Spanish.
5–10 years of policy and research experience.
Experience undertaking primary and secondary research and strong analytical skills.
Superior writing skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines, work collaboratively with a multicultural team, and take the initiative in advancing or leading projects with minimal supervision when needed.
Experience related to sustainable development, international development, mining, or resource governance.
Experience working in the Americas region.

Location: Ottawa or Toronto office. The possibility exists for a hybrid model of being home-based with regular commuting to work from the Ottawa or Toronto office.
Salary: CAD 67,000-78,000 (depended on experience)
Employment type: Full-time position
Position at 100% one-year contract, with possibility of indefinite renewal
