Job Description

We are seeking a Communications Coordinator for the agency. As part of a collaborative team, the Communications Coordinator will plan, execute, and measure social media activities; provide strategic communication support designed to highlight VCC’s research and policy advocacy as well as the work of our champions, collaboratives and stakeholders. These essential tasks require outstanding organizational skills and a keen attention-to-detail. Other responsibilities are outlined below:

Developing fun, original, and engaging social media content and marketing campaigns and seeking out opportunities to amplify communications. 
Posting, content moderation and advertising on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Google and LinkedIn.
Maintaining a strong knowledge base and keeping up to date in topics related to the Enough for All strategy and poverty in the City of Calgary.
Collaborating with VCC staff and stakeholders to ensure information presented digitally is accurate and consistent, and that it meets the values, objectives and strategic priorities.
Copywriting and editing newsletters, reports and an assortment of internal and external communications.
Assisting with the coordination and production of podcasts and videos.
In-person and online event management.

Qualifications and skill requirements

Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, public relations, or journalism.
A minimum of three years work experience in a communications environment including demonstrated social media and marketing experience.
Highly skilled in both written and verbal communication and strong knowledge of CP Style would be considered an asset.
Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite, Prismic or similar web platforms, Mailchimp, Canva, Google Analytics, Kapwing and social media platforms.
Experience building comprehensive and creative marketing and social media campaigns that reach a specified target audience.
Past, proven experience/success in creating engaging and impactful social media content using graphics, memes and video.
Proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
Previous content management system and website maintenance experience.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) would be considered an asset.
Must be a self-starter, demonstrate initiative and ability to work independently and take appropriate action based on analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to take direction from multiple internal stakeholders and make recommendations for the best path when priorities differ.
Video and photography training and experience.
A passion for evidence-based policy to reduce poverty in Calgary.

Application and compensation

This position is part-time, at approximately 20 hours per week. There may be a future opportunity for the position to transition to a full-time role. The salary range is $30 - $35 per hour with a comprehensive benefits package. VCC supports work-life balance, offers flexible work hours and promotes physical and psychological safety.
