About the Role:

Materials Engineer

The Materials Engineer will be providing all necessary assistance to the construction team with respect to all materials submittals, approvals, testing, sampling, etc. They will participate in the quality control of materials including all the laboratory and field testing, acceptance of used materials, and checking and accepting all remedial and corrective measures.

Below represents the core responsibilities of this role; this is by no means an exhaustive list:

Qualifications and Skills

  • University degree or higher-level diploma in Civil or Highway Engineering, Geology, or an equivalent discipline.

General Professional Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in the design, construction, or supervision of road works of which 5 years must be in sub-Sahara Africa.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience either as a works' contractor or supervisor in prospecting for road construction materials, laboratory testing of materials, and field testing for quality control of road works.
  • At least 2 years of full-time experience working in a materials testing laboratory.
  • Fluent in English.

Project Overview

The project will support the transport and agricultural sector, particularly in rural areas of Malawi. It will include technical assistance for policy and institutional reform and investments in rural infrastructure. The project consists of four road corridors grouped in two packages, i.e. Package 1 consists of Corridor 5 (Mchinji District and Kasungu District) and Corridor 15 (Mzimba District and Rumphi District), and Package 2 consists of Corridor 9A (Lilongwe District) and Corridor 10 (Mangochi District and Ntcheu District). The main tasks to perform are the detailed design and construction supervision of the four road projects and other ancillary roads and associated focal point infrastructure projects.
