DevWorks International (DevWorks) is seeking a Senior Business Development Officer to strengthen  its business development objectives by leading proposal management, partnership development, opportunity tracking, and other tasks.

DevWorks International was founded in 2011 and brings together a core team of solutions-oriented development professionals with expertise across technical areas and geographies. We deliver market-based solutions across five areas: agriculture, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), youth, governance, and natural resource management. Our approach is grounded in private sector engagement and improved service delivery, while building local capacity through ongoing partnerships and relationships.

Job Description

Position: Senior Business Development Officer
Reports to:  Director of Business Development
Work base: Hybrid (Partially Remote, 1-2 days per week in the office)
Classification: Exempt
Status: Full-time

Roles and Responsibilities

Opportunity monitoring:

  • Stay abreast of USAID, USDA and US Department of State funding trends and strategic developments related to DevWorks, ensuring that the team is informed of changes in trends and initiatives that might impact the organization.
  • Monitor donor solicitation announcements and disseminate relevant opportunities to DevWorks team.
  • Provide regular briefings to DevWorks staff regarding development opportunities and bid status, keeping them fully aware of all opportunities and proposals.
  • Maintain DevWorks opportunity tracking system and update Zoho CRM with current leads and opportunities. Make frequent updates on partnering conversations, competitive landscape, and other developments.
  • Represent DevWorks International at meetings and events, including proposal design sessions and conferences.
  • Strengthen the design and editing of key external marketing and communications materials.

Proposal management:

  • Serve as point of contact with prime and Proposal Manager on selected proposals.
  • As Proposal Manager, manage all proposal-related activities, including but not limited to:
  • Manage all aspects of proposal development, including the calendar and deliverables schedules;
  • Support capture and preparation for solicitations;
  • Manage recruitment for key personnel;
  • Communicate (manage email communication and facilitate meetings) with consultants and partner organizations on proposal development;
  • Review all inputs for responsiveness to donor requirements;
  • Draft or edit sections of proposals such as the management plan, capability and staffing sections, and other areas as appropriate;
  • Communicate potential trouble spots to the BD team as necessary, and suggest remediation;
  • Review budget drafts for alignment with the technical approach, org chart, etc., and communicate any trouble spots;
  • Update and assemble proposal materials (e.g., representations and certifications, CVs, bios, past performance references);
  • Manage production and submission, including formatting, compliance review, and submission; and
  • Maintain electronic and hard copy proposal files and oversees proposal debriefs and proposal close-out in accordance with DevWorks’ standard procedures.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • A minimum of four years of professional experience, including at least two years of business development/fundraising experience, ideally with USG government agencies.
  • Exceptional editing/proofreading skills are required to ensure the production of clear, concise, and grammatically correct documents.
  • Flexibility and cross-cultural understanding are attributes of a successful candidate.
  • Must be highly organized, dependable, and able to prioritize multiple demands to meet deadlines. Must have experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Must be available for international travel (up to 10-15% time).
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interest in international development. Experience living or working in a developing country desired.
  • Foreign language skills in French and/or Spanish a plus.
  • The position requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Strategic thinker adept at juggling priorities in a fast-paced environment and can plan, prioritize and organize individual and group activities and processes.
  • Team-focused must enjoy working as part of an energetic group of highly engaged individuals.
