The opportunity for an experienced professional to join and lead a growing, dynamic and highly skilled Poverty and Social Protection practice has arisen at OPM. Reporting in to the Director of Consulting, the successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the practice. Critical to our success, the selected person will be a respected leader in their field, with a wealth of experience they can use to both lead and develop a high performing team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Set and communicate the strategic vision to ensure the practice meets evolving client and beneficiary needs across the policy cycle and remains aligned to OPM strategy.

Practice Management and Project Delivery          

Accountable for the management of the practice and the delivery of impactful projects to OPM and client standards

Business Development and Client Engagement

Build a strong market position with diverse clients and ensure the practice has effective strategies in place to build resilient pipelines by working through global teams and in collaboration with international offices.

Compliance, Operations and Finance

Ensure that OPM is working in a safe, sustainable and compliant manner in accordance with country laws and context, and with all client’s policies. This will include working with functional heads and their teams (i.e. finance, HR, operations), and international offices to:

Corporate Responsibilities

Ensure the practice is compliant with OPM corporate policy, part of the broader global corporate community, and contribute to global strategy, policy and systems development as appropriate.

Person specification

Professional skills, knowledge and experience

  • Educated to post graduate degree level in a relevant field
  • Proven track record as a leader of a technical consulting function
  • A strong technical background of relevance in poverty and social protection in low and middle income countries
  • A proven track record building client relationships, responding to and creating business opportunities and delivering high-impact services in services focused on poverty, social protection and social care services
  • Demonstrable experience of operating in and driving value within a matrix structure across international and emerging markets
  • An extensive understanding of the consulting business model
  • Experience of working within a consultancy business environment within international development
  • Proven track record in business development
  • Ability to work in the relevant work location
