We are currently looking for open-minded and motivated International Cattle Breeding Management Specialist for NCBC for a Livestock Health and Value Chains Improvement Project in Cambodia.

Job description

The specialist will complete the following tasks:

(i) Advise and assist the NCBC Director to coordinate the management of the NCBC, including the development of annual work plans and budgets;

(ii) Train NCBC staff in the health management, husbandry and nutrition of the breeding bulls, based on clear commercial principles;

(iii) Coordinate feed and forage preparation with the NCBC fodder specialist;

(iv) Guide the NCBC team with the development of a training manual and conduct training programs for POAHP staff in frozen semen and liquid nitrogen storage and sale;

(v) Advise the NCBC team on the development of a training manual and train POAHP trainers in frozen semen and liquid nitrogen management by VAHWs;

(vi) Guide the NCBC team in developing data management systems in relation to NCBC farm management and semen production and sale and train laboratory and office staff in their application;

(vii) Guide NCBC staff in the management and maintenance of farm machinery and the DEWATS system;

(viii) Other activities as directed by the Project Director of Chief Technical Adviser.

Qualifications and requirements

·         Post graduate qualification in veterinary science and at least 10 years at a senior level in the development and management of commercial livestock farms and cattle breeding in the region. Extensive experience in the artificial insemination of cattle is preferred. A good understanding of WOAH standards for semen production and processing and of the preparation of training curricula is important.

·         The person should be a team oriented professional with good analytical and communication skills, able to support the development of a national artificial insemination program. The consultant should be capable of rapport with personnel at various levels, including staff, national consultants, agribusiness industry personnel, and international organizations.

·         A strongly self-motivated individual working with no or minimal supervision and able to travel to the rural areas and work in difficult conditions and meet tight deadlines is required. It is important that this person is sensitive to issues associated with gender, ethnicity, and poverty especially in the context of Cambodia.
