Project Description

The goal of the Acting on Climate Change Together (ACCT) Activity is to reduce the adverse impacts of climate-related disasters on education for children, including children with disabilities (CwD). The activity will meaningfully engage communities, children, schools, disabled person organizations and provide opportunities to collaboratively develop and implement disability-inclusive climate programs and approaches.

Position Description

The Senior Technical Advisor for Education, Climate Resilience, and Inclusion will serve as the lead technical expert on the integration of disability inclusive disaster risk reduction and preparedness into education systems. This includes guiding the development of plans to ensure education continuity during climate-related disasters and supporting the establishment of environmental clubs for primary level students. The Advisor will also provide expert guidance on strategies to increase enrollment of  children with disabilities in education programs. The role will involve mentoring education staff, advising on the implementation of climate resilience strategies, and working to ensure the inclusivity of disaster preparedness and education initiatives.

The candidate for the position of Technical Advisor shall have at a minimum the following qualifications:

Education:

A master’s degree in climate change adaptation, environmental studies, or a related discipline is required.

Skills and Experience:

·        Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in international education or climate resilience programs, with at least 3 to 5 years in a technical leadership role

·        Demonstrated expertise in developing disability inclusive disaster risk reduction and preparedness strategies and environmental education and stewardship..

·        Experience developing and/or supporting community awareness raising and advocacy campaigns. Experience with integrating disability inclusion into educational programs, ensuring access and equity for children with disabilities.

·        Prior experience mentoring and training education, community, or health personnel in resource-constrained settings for improved program implementation.

·        Experience establishing collaborative relationships with government agencies, schools, civil society, and community-based organizations, including disabled persons organizations (DPOs), to support education and social inclusion.
