This role provides prompt financial management support and coordination to any new Medair G-ERT response, new country program start-up and at times additional emergency support to country programs. This is a deployable role that ensures finance systems and processes are set up and implemented and work in collaboration with the International Programme Department to prepare, monitor and provide key, accurate financial information to stakeholders and to offer advice, analysis, forecasting, support and training in funds management.
The Medair GSO Finance Department, is primarily focused on Medair financial management and investment decisions, acts as a financial gatekeeper and strategic advisor in daily business operation and provides mid to long-term strategic financial insights to support management in the global emergency response relief and recovery operations.
This is a GSO based position in Lausanne, Switzerland. Remote placement may be considered, conditions apply. This role requires availability to deploy during the onset of a new humanitarian response. Travel could be 1-3 months at a time. If based in Switzerland, Swiss or eligible EU citizens, or those with a valid work permit for Switzerland, can apply.
• Execute the initial setup of a finance function in an emergency response or new country programme, managing daily and month-end accounting functions, and relevant support to implementing partners.
• Ensure compliance with Medair Finance policies, procedures, and guidelines to foster a strong control environment.
• Collaborate with HR to prepare monthly payroll, ensuring timely payment and record-keeping of staff salaries and allowances. Ensure all statutory deductions are made and paid to the appropriate authorities.
• Lead budget preparation, consolidation, monitoring and analysis for the response, supporting donor budget proposals and financial reporting. Maintaining oversight of all financial risks.
• Prepare, manage, and support internal and external audits related to responses. Develop an exit financial plan and execute closeout processes to ensure smooth closure of responses and country programs.
• University degree in business administration, accounting or equivalent relevant qualification.
• Experience in management accounting working in finance with an INGO and/or large complex organisation.
• Professional Accounting qualification either ACCA, CIMA, CPA or its equivalent.
• Proven skills in data analysis, financial reporting, presentations, problem solving, detailed administration.
• High computer literacy, Microsoft Office (Excel), accounting software/Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
• Analytical, resourceful, resilient, and solution-focused team player with strong interpersonal skills.
• Maintains strict confidentiality, high accuracy in data handling and attention to detail.
• Enjoys challenges, results oriented to achieve objectives and can prioritize to meet deadlines.
• Collaborative, flexible and agile with ability to manage personal stress levels.
• Excellent communication skills. English a must, French strongly desirable.
