Programme Manager [Adaptation]

Functional responsibilities

Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Director of Climate Ambition, the incumbent will provide substantive support on member state engagement. The responsibilities of the Programme Manager [Adaptation] include:

Strategies development and follow-up

• Contribute to the design of targeted strategies focused on countries or regions;
• Support implementation of the adaptation and resilience deliverables in the SG’s climate action strategy.
• Contribute to developing a strategy to secure new and more ambitious commitments.
• Contribute to developing a strategy on priority adaptation and resilience areas, including maintaining momentum for the SG’s call to commit 50% of climate finance to adaptation, broadening the coverage of early warning systems, and working with the finance lead on adaptation finance.

Partnerships

• Assist in building strong and diverse networks to help support the implementation of the countries' strategies, working with government, civil society, academia, and private sector actors.
• Assist in tracking key Member State activities, including negotiated outcomes and formal meetings, and help identify potential risks and opportunities related to the SG’s climate action strategy.
• Provide support for managing partnerships and coalitions, such as the Champions of Adaptation, Group of Friends on Adaptation and Resilience, Global Centre on Adaptation, and the Adaptation Action Coalition, to aid in advancing key priorities.

Programme Management

• Assist with preparing and coordinating Member State Advisory Group meetings, including developing materials to enhance their effectiveness and maintain engagement.
• Support the follow-up and implementation of key initiatives launched at the 2019 Climate Action Summit, with a focus on adaptation and resilience efforts.
• Provide assistance in drafting recommendations, briefing notes, key messages, and inputs into speeches for SG and DSG engagements with governments, the private sector, development finance institutions, and other relevant partners.
• Help monitor trends and innovations in adaptation finance and implementation.
• Perform additional duties as needed, aligned with the scope of the role.
