Functional responsibilities

The Programme Management - Associate facilitates the delivery of the programme activities with a focus on support with the implementation of the Global Programme on Nature for Development and related events and activities. The incumbent would assist in the overall delivery and implementation of the Global Programme on Nature for Development work to allow the programme to effectively shine a spotlight on the success of local and Indigenous groups that contribute to sustainable development at the grassroots level; to develop the capacities of local and Indigenous peoples; to inform policy and foster knowledge exchanges amongst local and national policy makers.

The assignment is supervised by the Manager of the Global Programme on Nature for Development.
Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Support the planning, execution, and monitoring of program activities in alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Assist in coordinating programmatic initiatives with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and briefings for donors, partners, and senior management.
  • Assist in facilitation of communication among stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Help organize meetings, workshops, and consultations with key partners.
  • Assist with budget tracking, procurement requests, and financial processes as per UN regulations.
  • Assist in collecting,, and compiling data to track program performance and impact.
  • Facilitate the participation of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) in national, regional, and global policy events to advocate for Indigenous rights, civil society engagement, and nature-based solutions for sustainable development.
  • Support Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in global conservation and development conferences.
  • Maintain a contact database to enhance outreach efforts and engagement with key stakeholders.
  • Assist in executing a comprehensive outreach plan for the Program by supporting email campaigns, social media activities, research to expand contact networks, and coordination with other nature-for-development teams.
  • Coordinate with writers, editors, and local communities to collect materials, and incorporate feedback.
  • Help organize and manage logistics for community dialogue workshops, including volunteer coordination and interpretation.
  • Assist with publications, newsletters, toolkits, presentations, social media posts, interviews, and podcasts.
  • Assist in organizing global, national, and local Program ceremonies and capacity-building events.
  • Assist Program staff in travel arrangements for the Nature for Development events.

 

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

  • Advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) with no relevant experience is desirable; OR
  • First-level university degree (undergraduate, bachelor, or equivalent), preferably in international relations, sustainable development, environmental management/sciences, social/political science, business and management, or other related disciplines, with two (2) years of relevant experience, will be considered an asset; OR
  • Secondary school diploma (or high school equivalent) and six (6) years of relevant experience are required.

Work experience
Relevant experience is defined as experience in business administration, legal, finance, project or programme management, human/civil/indigenous rights, local economic development, or civil society engagement and education.
Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Fluency in a second official UN language is desired.
